yonsei

As the oldest private university in Korea, Yonsei University was first established in 1885 by Christian missionaries. The mission is to educate leaders who will contribute to humanity in the spirit of truth and freedom. The 300,000 alumni of Yonsei who take this calling to heart can be found manifesting this proud spirit from leadership positions around the world. In Korea, Yonsei is generally accepted as one of the top three universities along with Seoul National UniversityKorea University (the “SKY” league). The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is among the largest in the country and offers one of the most comprehensive teaching and research programs available.

The School originates from three departments: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Radio Communications Engineering. The School consists of 57 faculty members, more than 1000 undergraduate students, and over 600 graduate students. Out of 57, 15 faculty members are in the area of communications and networking, which constitutes the largest “communication and networking” research and education unit in Korea. The curriculum consists of 42 undergraduate-level courses in five areas, namely, Microwave & Optics, Semiconductor & Electronic Devices, Control & Systems, Information Communications & Signal Processing, and VLSI & Circuit Designs. The School has over 50 research laboratories with more than 180 graduate-level courses categorized into nine different areas. In addition, the School includes six major research organizations: Research Institute of ASIC Design, Center for Signal Processing Research, Automation Technology Research Institute, Institute of Medical Instruments Technology, Information & Telecommunications Research Institute, and Radio Communication Research Center. Faculty members are dedicated to excellence in education and research where many have achieved worldwide prominence in their technical fields. The School is one of the leading producers of electrical/electronic engineering and computer engineering graduates in the country. The undergraduate and graduate programs offer courses all across the spectrum of electrical and electronic engineering leading to Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees.

RAMO (RAdio resource Management and Optimization Laboratory) is a research group in the area of wireless communication networks in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Yonsei University. RAMO's main research and education area falls within wireless communication networks. In particular, RAMO is focusing on four major issues: radio resource management, information theory, networked robotics and economic models for the future wireless infrastructure. Interdisciplinary approach (a hybrid of wireless communications, mathematics, control optimization and economics) is quite natural and highly recommended within RAMO. The laboratory currently consists of 8 PhD and 4 Master students, and, since the year of 2004, is a member of the Center for Broadband OFDM Multimedia Access (BROMA) and the Center for Advanced RFID/USN Technologies (CARUT), supported by the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy of Korea.
