The Office of Communications – is an independent organization which regulates the UK’s broadcasting, telecommunications and wireless communications sectors. Ofcom also sets and enforce rules on fair competition between companies in these industries and is responsible for managing civilian use of the radio spectrum, including releasing spectrum for new uses, allowing organizations to develop new wireless services for the benefit of citizens and consumers. This involves developing policies to ensure that the spectrum is used efficiently. Ofcom answers to the UK Parliament but is independent of the UK Government. The Government Departments that sponsor Ofcom are the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
